Terms of Service

Last updated:

Please read these Terms of Service carefully before booking or using any services offered by Peak Expeditions Tanzania. By making a booking with us, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to these terms.

1. About Us

Peak Expeditions Tanzania is a locally owned and operated tour company based in Arusha, Tanzania, founded by Raymond and Barnabas. We specialise in guided climbs of Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru, safari experiences, and day trips across Tanzania. Our operations are conducted in full compliance with the regulations set by the Kilimanjaro National Park Authority (KINAPA) and the Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project (KPAP).

2. Bookings and Payment

A deposit is required at the time of booking to secure your place. The balance is due in full prior to the start of your trip. Payment is processed securely through our payment partner WeTravel. Full payment terms and due dates will be confirmed at the time of booking.

All prices are quoted in US Dollars (USD). We do not accept Tanzanian Shillings for international bookings. Please ensure your US Dollar bills are new, crisp, and undamaged if paying in cash on arrival.

Peak Expeditions Tanzania reserves the right to cancel a booking if payment is not received by the agreed due date.

3. Cancellations and Refunds

  • Cancellations made within 48 hours of booking are eligible for a full refund of the deposit paid.

  • Cancellations made after 48 hours of booking or within 30 days of the trip start date may be subject to a cancellation fee. Full details of our cancellation policy will be provided at the time of booking.

  • If Peak Expeditions Tanzania is required to cancel your trip due to circumstances beyond our control (including but not limited to adverse weather, government restrictions, or safety concerns), we will offer a reschedule or credit. Refunds in such cases will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

4. Assumption of Risk

Trekking on Mount Kilimanjaro, Mount Meru, and other destinations in Tanzania involves inherent physical risks, including altitude sickness, fatigue, challenging terrain, and unpredictable weather. No technical climbing skills are required for our routes, but participants must be aware that these activities carry risk regardless of fitness level or experience.

By booking with us, you acknowledge and accept the inherent risks associated with adventure trekking and outdoor activities in Tanzania. Peak Expeditions Tanzania, its founders, guides, and staff are not liable for injury, illness, loss, or death resulting from participation in any of our tours or treks.

5. Health and Fitness Requirements

All clients are responsible for ensuring they are in adequate physical and mental health to participate in their chosen activity. We strongly recommend consulting your GP or a travel health clinic before your trip, particularly regarding vaccinations, altitude medication, and travel insurance.

Guides carry emergency oxygen and conduct daily health checks on the mountain. However, our guides reserve the right to require any client to descend or withdraw from an activity if they believe continuing poses a serious risk to that client's health or safety.

6. Minimum Age

Clients under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Kilimanjaro National Park has its own age regulations for summit attempts; clients are responsible for familiarising themselves with these requirements before booking.

7. Travel Insurance

Comprehensive travel insurance is strongly recommended for all clients and is considered essential for any Kilimanjaro climb or multi-day safari. Your policy should cover:

  • Medical evacuation

  • Trip cancellation

  • Personal liability

Peak Expeditions Tanzania is not responsible for costs arising from injuries, illnesses, or trip disruptions where adequate insurance was not in place.

8. Passports, Visas, and Vaccinations

Each traveller is solely responsible for ensuring they hold a valid passport (valid for at least six months beyond your travel dates), the correct visa for Tanzania, and any required vaccinations. Peak Expeditions Tanzania provides general guidance but cannot assist with individual passport or visa applications. Requirements can change; always verify with the relevant embassy or official government source before travel.

9. Luggage and Equipment

  • Kilimanjaro National Park enforces a strict 15 kg porter load limit per trekker. Bags will be weighed before the climb begins. Items exceeding the limit must be stored at the hotel. Additional porters can be arranged for an added fee.

  • Since June 2019, Tanzania has banned single-use plastic bags. Please ensure your packing solutions (dry bags, packing cubes, zip-lock bags) comply with this regulation.

10. Conduct and Responsibility

Clients are expected to treat all guides, porters, chefs, and fellow travellers with respect throughout the trip. Peak Expeditions Tanzania reserves the right to remove any client from a trip without refund if their behaviour endangers others, violates park regulations, or is deemed inappropriate by the lead guide.

11. Intellectual Property

All content on the Peak Expeditions Tanzania website — including text, photography, itineraries, and branding — is the property of Peak Expeditions Tanzania and may not be reproduced, distributed, or used commercially without prior written consent.

12. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Peak Expeditions Tanzania's total liability for any claim arising out of or in connection with our services shall not exceed the amount paid by the client for the specific trip in question. We are not liable for indirect, consequential, or incidental losses.

13. Governing Law

These Terms of Service are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United Republic of Tanzania. Any disputes arising from these terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Tanzania.

14. Updates to These Terms

We may update these Terms of Service periodically. Any changes will be posted on this page with a revised date. Continued use of our services after such updates constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
